THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7 welcomed the pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte that the Philippine National Police (PNP) will again lead the war on illegal drugs.
“We did admit that we had a hard time coping since we had to respond to so many incidents every day. But we will welcome the day we will once against get involved in the campaign,” PDEA 7 information officer Leia Albiar told reporters in Cebuano.
Last Saturday, Duterte said the PNP would resume its lead role if the narcotics problem worsens. Last month, he issued a memorandum ordering the PDEA to be the sole agency in the war against drugs. Albiar said the price of a fivegram pack of shabu has jumped from around P16,000 to P18,000 to P30,000.
Some of the shabu being sold on the streets were also mixed with crushed fluorescent tubes and other ingredients, making the drug more dangerous, she said. Meanwhile, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) is ready to wage war against drugs once the President gives the go-ahead.
That way, they will catch more drug personalities during Oplan Pokemon, said CCPO Director Joel Doria. “We will (just) implement what we were doing previously,” he said. He said that even if they were excluded in raids and buy-busts, they continued to gather intelligence on possible drug personalities in their areas of responsibility, and forwarded the information to PDEA 7.
